Football Friday: College Edition

Another Friday on the eve of Week 3 of College Football

11-3 on the year picking straight up
4-10 against the spread

What I will be watching this week (not a great week for college football but its still football)

Central Florida @ Missouri 12:00 SEC Network
Missouri -10 over/under 54.5
I watched a little bit of Missouri last week at Toledo. I was impressed with Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk. He really spreads the ball around to his playmakers. I will be interested to see them play against a very athletic Knights defense with a very good secondary. UCF will start Justin Holman at qb who is a dual threat and UCF may have beat PSU in the opener if he had played the whole game. The Knights havent played since the trip to Ireland. I think this will be a very good game with both teams trading blows. I think Maty Mauk will make a couple more plays.

East Carolina @ Virginia Tech 12:00 ESPN
Virginia Tech -11 over/under 53.5
The Hokies return home after heading to the Shoe and beating the Buckeyes. Are they back? They will be tested against a good East Carolina squad. Will there be any hangover? If there is, ECU can put up some points. However, I think Va Tech may start out slow offensively, but it seems as if there calling card is the defense especially the secondary. Beamer ball will be in effect and the Hokies will be 3-0

Georgia @ South Carolina 3:30 CBS
Georgia -6 over/under 60
This is almost a must win for the Gamecocks. In their first test of the year they were blown off the firld by Texas A&M. Their secondary was exposed by Kenny Hill and the Aggies. Luckily for the Gamecocks, Georgia will rely on the ground with maybe the best back in the country in Todd Gurley. Traditionally these games are close and I expect this one to be the same, especially at the g=home of the Cocks. The Cocks will play well but it wont be enough to stop Todd Gurley.

Tennessee @ Oklahoma 8:00 ABC
Oklahoma -20.5 over/under 54.5
Oklahoma is quietly flying under the radar with 2 layups in its first 2 games. They should get a little bit tested with Tennessee coming to town. Tennessee has played well early and has the looks of the best Vols team in years. Both teams have very good front 7s defensively. I expect this to be a feeling out early with the defenses controlling the game. OU will then create some turnovers and go to work. This is early in the year and Bob Stoops wins games in September. Its another story when the calendar turns.
Oklahoma 31 Tennessee 16
Lean under 54.5

UCLA @ Texas 8:00 FOX
UCLA -7.5 over/under 50
This I think is an interesting matchup. I dont know who the real UCLA is. I picked them to win the Pac12 before the year started. But, they have not looked good at all. Are they just waiting for a spotlight game or is what theyve showed in the opening 2 weeks who they are. Texas on the other hand is delaing with major injures. There qb and center are out and there playmaker Jaxon Shipley is questionable. I am going to go with my gut and early season prediction and the Bruins. However, I wouldnt be shocked if Charlie Strong and the Horns give the Bruins everything they want and more.
UCLA 30 Texas 17
Lean UCLA -7.5

Penn St @ Rutgers 8:00 Big Ten Network
PSU -3 over/under 53
Sanctions are over and a 2-0 start have to have the Lions feeling good about themselves. They better be focused though as they will get a test in Piscataway. Rutgers is also 2-0 and opens their Big Ten career under the lights. The offense has looked good putting up points at will vs Washington St and Howard. They have given up there share as well. Penn State survived a tough game last week after the emotional win in Dublin and the travel lag vs Akron. They were led by their defense. This will be the best defense the Knights have faced to date. Rutgers will make some plays but not nearly enough against the Lions d. Hackenberg should find some success as both Washington St and Howard found against Rutgers. The Lions will start the year 3-0.
PSU 34 Rutgers 20
Lean PSU-3
