Recap of what I watched from the college gridiron on Saturday:
3-3 on the day 11-3 on year straight up
2-4 on the day 4-10 overall predicting vs the spread
My Way to Early top 10 through 2 weeks:
2.) Florida State
4.) Texas A&M
10.) Michigan State
Things I Watched Recap
Akron @ Penn State 12:00 ABC
Penn State -14.5
Penn State comes home from across the pond to face Akron. Will the Lions have some hangover from the trip and the emotional last second win. I expect them to be flat early but Christian Hackenberg is to good for the Akron secondary
Penn State 31 Akron 17
Lean under 51
What happened: PSU 21-3
Penn State came out flat as we called for. Hackenberg did exploit the Zips secondary but not without mistakes of his own. Penn States defense came up big when it had to. PSU still struggled to run the ball and must find a way to do so as they travel to Rutgers Saturday.
Lean on the under was correct
USC @ Stanford 3:30 ABC
A clash of styles on the west coast. Steve Sarkisian brought an up tempo style to Cody Kessler and the Trojans. They ran 105 plays last week and 64 in the first half. Stanford and David Shaw like to line up and run it right at you. I really have no read on this game but am extremely intrigued. I will take Stanford for the soul fact USC has a lot of freshman playing but would not be surprised either outcome
Stanford 27 USC 23
Lean under 55
What really happened: USC 13-10
Stanford controlled the game and was able to get the contest played at Cardinal speed. The Cardinal had the ball numerous times in USC territory but failed to do anything with time after time. Kudos to the USC defense for making plays when it had to. Looking at the Trojan schedule its not inconceivable to see them running the table until the last 2 @ UCLA and home to Notre Dame.
Lean on the under was correct
Continuous Prediction (2-0 stright up/ 1-1 against the spread):
“I think we will win by at least 14 but I know we will cover the +2.5″
The Continuous was right in all but guaranteeing the Trojan cover
Michigan St @ Oregon 6:30 Fox
In what can be a statement game for the Big Ten Sparty travels to Eugene for another game that pits opposing styles against each other. Sparty is led by its physical defense which will try and overpower the high tempo Oregon offense. However, I think the game will be decided on the other side when Sparty offense goes against the Ducks defense. IF the Sparty offense can control the clock and keep the Oregon offense on the sideline, Sparty could be heading back to the Midwest with a signature win. I think the Spartan defense will have success and the offense will have its moments but not enough.
Oregon 31 Michigan St 24
Lean Michigan St +12
What really happened: Oregon 46-27
This game was a little more wide open than I imagined it being. The Spartans held a 27-18 lead in the 3rd quarter. Spart scored 20 straight points after trailing 18-7. The difference in the game was Marcus Mariota who came up big for the Ducks whenever they needed a play. He converted a huge 3rd down in the 3rd quarter when the Spartans had all the momentum which lead to a Ducks touchdown and propelled them to the victory.
We called for Michigan St +12 but a late Duck score squashed that
BYU @ Texas 7:30 Fox Sports 1
Texas hosts BYU who gained 550 yards vs the Horns last year. Texas will be without starting quarterback David Ash as well as their starting center. Texas defense will have to strap up to contain Taysom Hill the Cougar qb. I think Texas pulls it out with the defense causing some turnovers and running the football to give Charlie Strong his first big win in Austin
Texas 20 BYU 16
Lean Texas -1
What really happened: BYU 41-7
An absolute thrashing. I thought the Longhorn defense would contain Taysom Hill but the exact opposite happened. Watch out as BYU has a schedule in which they can win out. There are trips to Central Florida and a trip to Boise St. If they can survive those, we may have an undefeated team without a signature win in the first year of the 4 team playoff.
We leaned Texas -1…hahaha
Virginia Tech @ Ohio State
Ohio State -11
Last week was not pretty for the Buckeyes. It took them a couple quarters to find their stride and pull away from the Midshipmen. They better tighten it up this week as Beamer ball comes to town. The Hokies have a really good secondary and should keep the Buckeyes and JT Barrett in check. However, the Hokie offense will not be able to do anything at the Shoe. Expect an ugly game but much like last week OSU pulls away late.
Ohio State 30 Virginia Tech 10
Lean Ohio St -11
What really happened: VA Tech 35-21
We called for the Hokie defense especially the secondary to cause some fits. They did that and then some intercepting Barrett 3 times returning one for a td. Barrett was also sacked 7 times. The more shocking thing was the ability for the Hokie offense to move the ball. They went to the shoe and took it right at the Buckeyes and handed the Big Ten an embarrassing loss.
We leaned Ohio St -11 and it wasnt close
Michigan @ Notre Dame
Notre Dame -3.5
The last game of this traditional matchup scheduled. It should be a great matchup in South Bend, as most Wolverine/Irish battles are. Both teams have explosive quarterbacks that can turn the game in an instant. It could be who has the ball last wins.
Notre Dame 34
Lean over 55.5
What really happened: Notre Dame 31-0
This was an embarrassment to anyone who has ever put on a Michigan helmet. Brady Hoke is in so far over his head its ridiculous. The coaching search should begin now. Saying that give credit to the Irish especially the D who made the Wolverines look silly. Golson again played well and his athleticism and ability to make plays makes the Irish a formidable foe.
We leaned over 55.5 and Michigan embarrassed that prediction.
